Realizing my attention was being pulled away from our conversation toward the flickering light and shadows cast through the vines crawling on her window, I asked my friend, "Is that poison ivy?"  She laughed and explained that the poison ivy wasn’t there when she hung the finch feeder in the early spring.  The sensation and image this created in my mind was so striking that after having had several encounters with yellow finches later that day I decided to create this painting and titled it “Blind Faith”.

My favorite paintings are the ones that continue to reveal more to me over time.  My original feelings about this painting had to do with trusting life to provide and having a feeling of abundance inside.  Today, I have a sense that it is also about focus.  Focusing on the things that nourish me and allowing my attention to be drawn only toward that.  It appears to be the same kind of attention the “birds of heaven” give to life.
